Here’s an excerpt from a novel I started writing a little over a year ago, I stopped writing it but she’s making a comeback.
It’s called Truth To Light and it’s about a group of teenagers who are forced to solve the murder of their friend after they realize the police are covering it up. In doing so, they discover a string of events that don’t add up. They learn that nothing stays buried in a small town filled with big secrets:
When they arrived at Nick’s house they found his front door wide open.
“Nick left his door open again. We need to teach that boy some safety tips,” James laughed as he walked towards the door. Nick had a bad habit of leaving his door open.
“Guys!!” Everyone ran inside to see what made Jennifer scream. When they walked in, they were greeted with blood. Lots of it scattered all over. Droplets of blood clung to the walls and floor, smeared on the furniture. The small glass table in the living room was flipped over, broken glass everywhere.
“Oh my god. Someone call the police. We have to find Nick!” Panic was laced in Skyler’s voice. With every word her voice grew unstable. She knew this amount of blood wasn’t good.
Soon everyone scrambled around looking for their friend while James stood in the living room on the phone with the police. Nick’s name was being called throughout the whole house but there was no answer.
James hung up the phone and made his way down to the basement where Jennifer was.
“The police are on their way,” James saw that Jennifer was sitting in the corner crying.
“Hey stop that. Don’t cry,” James ran over to her and wrapped his arms around her pulling her into him.
“I can’t lose any more people. I just can’t. Nick is one of my best friends, if I lose him I wouldn’t know what to do. I just can’t,” Jennifer broke down into a full sob. James sat there and held her while she cried. He wanted to say that things would be okay but deep down he knew the chances weren’t good.
A chilling scream rippled through the air echoing through the entire house. James quickly jumped to his feet realizing the scream came from his sister. Her screams continued as everyone ran to where she was, which was Nick’s room. Mixed in with her screams were faint sounds of police sirens.
Skyler stood in the doorway terrified. Her eyes glued on the horrific sight in front of her. She felt the presence of her friends behind her but she couldn’t move.
“Oh my god! No!” Jennifer’s voice cracked as her fear came true. There was blood everywhere, on the wall, on the bed. The full length mirror on the wall was shattered, shards everywhere. It wasn’t just the sight, but also the smell. The overwhelming metallic aroma of blood. The police sirens became louder as they approached the house, but it was too late. Skyler made her way towards the body ignoring the cries of others. She dropped to her knees, blood splashed on her staining her pink blouse.
“No please. God no, come back. Please,” She held onto his shirt, shaking him vigorously.
“I’m so sorry, Nick.” As she cried, the police made their way into the house looking for the teens who found the dead body of their friend.
