faded flame.

What do you do when your soulmate is dead?
How do you fall in love with the one when the one was taken away from you?
Forced to spend the rest of your days wandering the physical realm all alone
Soulmates DON’T always end up together despite what they say
I met you at a time where men were the villains of my story
The ones who decimated everything I built while I was held down
Forced to watch as undeserving men destroyed and took credit for the very achievements I was ostracized for
My blood, sweat, and tears were the mold used to build men up, turning them into giants
You watched in silence, absorbing every cruel deed done by your fellow brethren
The next day those same men were strung up high for the whole town to see
THIS was a warning to all men
I grinned liked the devil as I took in every bloody detail of their demise
Then I saw you.
Grinning like the devil too.

And there our love story began.
Together we traveled through the stars teaching men the error of their ways
You were unlike any man I’ve ever met.
We blended together perfectly like a savory mixture
You soothed my edges while I sharpened your curves
We needed each other the way fire needs oxygen to breathe
And together we torched our enemies and anyone that dared try to separate us
For nearly a decade I lived and breathed everything that you were
And then I lost you.

Our once eternal flame faded out.
When we were together, our power was unstoppable
But when we were apart, you struggled.
When the time came to forge our own paths you traveled down a dark one insisting THIS is where you belonged
Baby you were wrong.
You were nothing but purity yet you became one with the midnight sky
Instead of fighting off the demons that plagued you, you became one with them, morphing into the very ones you used to string up
You were your own punching bag
Every time I saw you the self inflicted wounds spread like an unwanted cancer
I couldn’t save you the way you saved me,
And for that I am sorry.
My sole job as your soulmate was to save you from the dark side, not watch it devour everything good about you
This isn’t a love story where the soulmates overcome the trials & tribulations
This is tale of heartache and lost.
I watched my soulmate die, all while I stood behind a glass.
held down, forced to watch as a good man got dealt the hand he didn’t deserve.
